About

Ideas Woman + Writer
+ Adventurer

Always seeking my next great story.

I’m a freelance travel journalist, writer and editor covering adventure travel, culture and sustainability. For over 17 years, I’ve worked in travel media—across print, TV and digital—and I’ve been a travel writer for even longer.

Formerly Newsweek’s travel editor, I spearheaded the Future of Travel Awards and I contribute to outlets such as AFAR, National Geographic, Outside, Time, CNN Travel, Hemispheres, Condé Nast Traveler, Scuba Diving, Fodor's, Travel + Leisure, The Washington Post and more.

Previously, I helped relaunch Adventure.com with a new editorial vision from the ground floor up as editor-in-chief, and I worked at Travel Channel for over seven years as a digital editor and producer where I managed travel host Samantha Brown’s website, incubated new voices in travel and more.

My love for adventure has inspired me to climb the highest mountain in Europe, Mt. Elbrus; search for Shangri-La in Tibet; scuba dive through an underwater prison in Estonia; and most recently, learn to freedive in Baja California Sur, Mexico, where I’m based as well as Brooklyn, NYC.

I’m a media member of Women Travel Leaders and the Adventure Travel Trade Association. I co-founded the Washington, DC, Travel Massive, and since 2013, I’ve been an ambassador for EIM Haiti, an adult language school in Haiti. I’m happiest when I have a mountain to hike, ski, or dance on, and strangers to meet.

“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
